Our Commitment to Accessibility
piensas.xyz, LLC is committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible, regardless of ability, disability, or the technology used to access it. We aim to achieve conformance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and the relevant requirements of EN 301 549 (European Standard for ICT accessibility).
This statement was prepared through a self-assessment carried out by piensas.xyz on . We review and update it on a regular basis as the site evolves.
Conformance Status
Partially conformant
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.
The pages covered by this statement are:
Technical Specifications
Accessibility of piensas.xyz relies on the following technologies being supported by the user's browser and any assistive technologies installed:
- HTML5 (semantic markup, ARIA attributes)
- CSS (visual styling; no layout information conveyed by CSS alone)
- JavaScript / ECMAScript modules (for navigation and interactive components)
- WAI-ARIA 1.2 (roles, states, properties for dynamic content)
The site has been designed using progressive enhancement principles. Core content is accessible even when JavaScript modules fail to load; the navigation and footer degrade gracefully.
Accessibility Features Implemented
The following accessibility features are implemented across all pages of this website:
Skip navigation link
A "Skip to main content" link appears at the top of every page when focused with the keyboard, allowing users to bypass the navigation bar (WCAG 2.4.1).
Keyboard navigation
All interactive elements — links, buttons, the mobile menu — are reachable and operable with the keyboard alone. Tab order follows visual reading order (WCAG 2.1.1, 2.4.3).
Visible focus indicators
A clearly visible teal focus ring is displayed on all focusable elements when using the keyboard, meeting the minimum 3:1 contrast requirement (WCAG 2.4.7, 2.4.11).
ARIA landmarks
Semantic HTML5 landmark elements (nav,
main,
footer) are used throughout,
supplemented with ARIA labels for assistive technology navigation (WCAG 1.3.1).
Descriptive alt text
All meaningful images include descriptive alt
attributes. Decorative images are either described or implement the empty-alt pattern
(WCAG 1.1.1).
Language declared
Every page declares lang="en" on
the root <html> element,
allowing screen readers to select the correct voice and pronunciation rules (WCAG 3.1.1).
Responsive & scalable text
All font sizes use relative units (rem/em via Tailwind). Content remains readable and functional at 200% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling (WCAG 1.4.4, 1.4.10).
Reduced motion support
All decorative animations and transitions are suppressed for users who have enabled the "reduce motion" preference in their operating system (WCAG 2.3.3 — AAA, implemented as a proactive measure).
Labelled interactive controls
Buttons (including the mobile hamburger toggle) and icon links carry
aria-label or
aria-expanded attributes to
communicate their purpose and state to screen readers (WCAG 4.1.2).
Consistent navigation
The navigation bar and footer appear in the same position and order on every page, providing a predictable browsing experience (WCAG 3.2.3, 3.2.4).
Page titles
Every page has a unique, descriptive <title>
element that conveys the page's purpose and site name (WCAG 2.4.2).
Multiple navigation paths
Each page can be reached via the site navigation and via the dedicated HTML Sitemap, providing at least two independent routes (WCAG 2.4.5).
Known Limitations
Despite our efforts, we are aware of the following accessibility limitations. We are actively working to address these:
Mathematical notation
Equations on the Equations page are rendered as Unicode plain text, which may not be fully interpretable by all screen readers or mathematical assistive tools. We have mitigated this by providing descriptive headings and prose explanations for every equation (WCAG 1.1.1 — partially addressed).
Decorative animated background
The home page features a slowly rotating Fibonacci background and floating mathematics layers. These are marked as presentational and carry no information value, but they may produce motion for users who have not enabled the OS-level reduced-motion preference. Users who need to suppress this animation should enable "Reduce motion" in their operating system settings.
Third-party content
Some PDF documents linked from the Projects section (e.g. Lynce one-pager) are produced by third parties. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of those documents and are working to ensure that text summaries are available for all linked PDFs (WCAG 1.1.1 — in progress).
Assessment Approach
piensas.xyz assessed the accessibility of this website through a self-evaluation process that included:
- Manual keyboard-only navigation testing across all pages.
- Automated analysis using the browser-embedded Axe accessibility engine.
- HTML semantic structure review against WCAG 2.1 Success Criteria.
- Colour contrast verification for text and interactive elements against AA thresholds (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text).
- Review of ARIA landmark usage and heading hierarchy (h1 → h2 → h3).
- Testing at 200% and 400% browser zoom to verify reflow and readability.
